OUR STORY

Built from Hands-On Experience

North Sea 3D Ltd specialises in the design, development and production of physical components, supported by digital tools that streamline the journey from concept to finished part.

The journey began in early 2013 with a RepRap Mendel—one of the pioneering open-source machines that helped shape modern desktop 3D printing. Building, operating and refining that platform created a practical understanding of the entire process: digital model preparation, machine setup, print execution, problem-solving and post-processing.

North Sea 3D Ltd was founded in September 2016. That original ground-up approach remains central to the company today: understand the application, prepare the design properly and manufacture a part that serves a real purpose.

Our Journey

From an early open-source printer to an engineering-led additive manufacturing business.

2013

The First Printer

Hands-on additive manufacturing began with a RepRap Mendel, establishing an understanding of both the machine and the complete printing workflow.

2016

North Sea 3D Founded

North Sea 3D Ltd was incorporated in September 2016 to develop professional printing capability around practical engineering needs.

TODAY

Engineering-Led Production

NS3D provides FDM and SLA printing, rapid prototyping, specialist materials, design support and free browser-based 3D tools.

NEXT

Building for the Future

Continued investment in production capability, workflow technology and structured quality systems will support increasingly demanding sectors.

ENGINEERING FOUNDATION

Experience Beyond the Printer

NS3D is led by a founder with more than 20 years of engineering experience across energy, oil and gas, renewables and telecommunications. This includes the leadership of engineering teams and delivery of complex, high-value projects supporting international operations.

That background shapes how projects are assessed. Components are considered in terms of function, interfaces, operating environment, tolerances, failure modes, logistics and practical use—not simply whether a file can be printed. Our engineering case studies show examples of that approach applied to real projects.

  • Real-world engineering and operational perspective
  • Experience supporting complex international projects
  • Understanding of demanding offshore and industrial environments
  • Practical evaluation of material, geometry and production risk

Physical Parts Remain Our Core Business

Our digital tools support manufacturing; they do not replace it.

Professional 3D Printing

FDM and Formlabs SLA manufacturing for prototypes, functional parts, models, tooling and short production runs.

File-to-Print Support

Engineering guidance covering file preparation, material selection, orientation, tolerances and design optimisation.

Free Digital Tools

Browser-based tools that help users view, inspect, repair, convert and analyse their 3D files without an account.

How We Work

A straightforward engineering approach from the initial question to the finished component.

01

Understand the Application

Establish what the component must do and the conditions it must withstand.

02

Prepare the Design

Review geometry, interfaces, tolerances and suitability for additive manufacture.

03

Select the Process

Match FDM or SLA and the appropriate 3D printing material to the project requirements.

04

Manufacture Reliably

Control preparation, printing and post-processing to produce a consistent output.
